If you have ever fancied trying your hand at fishing or if you are an accomplished fisherman you may relish the opportunity to fish the exclusive stretch of the River Tamar that runs through the gardens. With eight miles of fishing and a ghillie to show the ropes or give you tips, fishing is at the historical heart of Endsleigh. Info.
Tavistock is about 15 minutes away from the hotel and is a lovely little market town with a reputation for food and independent shops. There is a covered pannier market each week and also a farmers market and art market each month.
If you need an adrenaline fix there are all sorts of country sports available nearby. 4×4 driving, clay pigeon shooting, archery and canoeing are all very popular as well as tree-surfing for those with a head for heights. About 45 mins away is Adrenaline Quarry which has the longest zip wire in Britain.
For those looking for a more cultural experience the National Trust has several properties within easy reach Cothele House, Saltram House and Castle Drogo.
Within a short drive of the Hotel are all the glories of Dartmoor. We can arrange for a guide to take you walking whether you want a good family yomp or a three day trek with wild camping.
Meet the magnificent Birds of Prey under the guidance of one of the Country’s top Falconers. Spend a couple of hours in the company of Hawks, Owls and their ilk, including the thrill of handling and flying these amazing birds yourself in the garden of Endsleigh.
We have an arrangement with our nearby Country Club which allows guests to use their pool, sauna, steam room, gym and spa. They also have a Jack Nicklaus golf course.
There are fabulous local stables right on the edge of Dartmoor so that you can gallop away across the moor if you wish.
The Hardicott Shoot uses the drives around the edge of the estate. A very good pheasant shoot which provides a good range of bird heights in beautiful surroundings. Richard Street is the shoot manager (07973 769123).
The beautiful North Cornish coast is about an hour’s drive. Perfect for fish & chips at Rick Stein’s in Padstow or surfing lessons at Watergate Bay with dinner afterwards at Jamie Oliver’s ‘Fifteen’ restaurant. The Eden Project is a similar distance away.
